My title for my project is "The Illusion of Perspectives". I have explored predominantly optical illusions but also how things can be viewed differently depending on how you view them, and people's perspectives on viewing things. I have mainly looked at the comparison between masculine and feminine garments, silhouettes created from these, and details in them to create something with unexpected content, another theme that fits with my concept. To explore this, I looked at the shape of curved lines on a typical optical illusion image and how I could recreate these on a garment through trialling different techniques onto fabrics, as well as projecting onto a mannequin to understand how the shapes would fall onto the body. I also looked at how the comparison of different materials could create illusions, such as clear and sheer materials against a more solid, opaque fabric. For the masculine and feminine contrasts, I wanted to create something that had a more masculine look from a distance, but as you looked closely it revealed dainty, feminine details that were hidden before. I felt this linked well with my theme of illusions and how people view things differently, as some people may view the oversized silhouette I created as masculine, whereas some may not. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic unfortunately we were unable to make a final garment, however an insight into my work for this project can be viewed below.
